FAQ:  the scratchboard surface I use is a clay-coated hardboard panel that is coated with India ink, produced by the company Ampersand. I use a #11 Exacto knife and other tools to scratch off the black and reveal the white clay underneath. This is a slow process, taking longer than an oil painting of the same size.  I seal the finished boards with matt spray varnish so the originals can be framed without glass. I am taking commissions in scratchboard. Email me for a quote: ruth@ruthsanderson.com.
